Have you ever got an idea and you wanted to do it but got afraid that if you did it everything will change? Well, this is one idea that I came up with a few years ago. It’s something that has been on my heart and has yet to go away. It all started one time when I was watching The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise. Here is what has been on my heart.
The Samurai devotes themselves in learning their craft. They devote themselves in learning their beliefs. They devote themselves in all areas of their life. That got me to thinking…what if all the Christians in the world truly devoted themselves to reading God’s Word and praying everyday? I’m not just talking about a 5 minute devotion but some serious digging into the Word and devoting themselves in prayer. Can you imagine how much different the world would be?
Now this is where I’ve been hesitant. Just like many of you I enjoy watching my television shows. I have several scattered throughout the week that are on my must watch. So, here is where the big question lies. Am I willing to forgo watching all my shows to grow into a deeper relationship with God? Many times I say “yes”. But in reality when I’m alone, the television is something that I enjoy just to have some noise in the background.
Another distraction I have is allowing the chores around the house to be more important than spending time with Him. Especially first thing in the morning. I put a load of laundry in the washer and then my mind goes onto the next chore. A perfect example of being a Martha instead of a Mary.
I’m starting today (even though I have already binged watched a few episodes of DC Legends of Tomorrow on Netflix), I’m going to strive to limit my television watching and watch how I manage my time so I can spend time learning the heart of God. Either through reading His Word or by spending time in praise and worship. There will be other things I will be changing along the way, but not immediately. I don’t want to overwhelm myself and totally forego the purpose of why I started.
I’m fondly calling what I’m doing the Christian Samurai project. I don’t know how long this will be. It may turn into a new lifestyle. It is my prayer that you get encouraged as you follow my journey. At any point, if you feel lead to join me on this project. I would like some company and we can encourage one another as we grow closer to Him.

I LOVE the imagery this brings up! Great article, sister. 🙂
